Rigid; stiff; solid; dead but not corrupted.

silkworms, stiffened as they are just before weaving the cocoons.

hṳ́ kò̤ chut kâi kiang-si ŏi hāi nâng;
that place produces a species of corpse, which does not suffer corruption, and which draws life from people.

it was by compulsion, not of free will.

do not seek it by underhand ways.

pńg-pńg sĭ bŏi cò̤, míen-kíang cò̤ kàu hó̤;
though really unable to do it he nerved himself up to the accomplishment of it.

thĕng khî cṳ̆-jîen, màiⁿ khṳ̀ míen-kíang i;
let it go till it happens of itself, do not go and force it.

i pńg-pńg m̄ hàuⁿ, sĭ úa kíang kàu i hàuⁿ;
he was himself unwilling, but I prevailed on him against his inclination.

khí-cho̤ sĭ míen-kíang cò̤, kàu kú cū cṳ̆-jîen;
in the beginning it is done perforce, but afterward it goes on as a matter of course.

rouse up your energies and do it.

i jĭm kĭang, kĭang m̄ khí;
tried to prevail on him, but without success.

khak-khó kĭang khí sin lâi kio i phûeh ūe;
persisted in endeavoring to get up and speak with him.

cí kâi kĭang kùe hṳ́ kâi;
this is superior to that.
