• To stammer in talking, because of a stoppage in the throat, caused by fear, rage or grief.

• i kâi âu-lêng-kng ngĕ, kṳ̂h-kṳ̂h-kìe, tàⁿ ūe tàⁿ m̄ chut;

  his tonsils were stiffened, so that (having a lump in his throat,) he could only sob out some words, and could not talk connectedly.

• tkⁿ ue m̄ tîeh tàⁿ hó̤-hó̤, màiⁿ kṳ̂h-kṳ̂h-kìe;

  if you are going to speak, why don’t you speak properly, and not stammer and stutter.

• nŏ̤ kù ūe kṳ̂h-kṳ̂h-kìe, tàⁿ cêk kùa;

  in saying two sentences he stammers and stutters so that it takes him half a day to get it out.

• khuaⁿ-khuaⁿ tó̤ kṳ̂h;

  gradually stammered forth.
